If you're taking the 5mg immediate release tablet, and switch to the 6. If you're taking a 10mg immediate release tablet, and you switch to the 6. The CR will release into your system more slowly. It's intended for people who are able to fall asleep, but aren't able to stay asleep. Just as FYI - I take the regular oral tablet, the generic, and I've been taking it for around 6 years now. I had a sleep center visit but they didn't recommend a sleep study for me, because it was pretty obvious that my ADD was the cause of my insomnia and I don't want to be medicated for the ADD. It's not ADHD - there's no hyperactivity.

So my Dad has been taking 10mg of the regular Ambien which has been working for him for years and now he can't stay asleep ambien night since my Lorazepam upper or downer recently passed away unexpectedly. He decided to try one my Mom's CR's he said they were 5mg, but I think he's mistaken and they must be the 6.

He said he still woke up at 3 or 4 a. Do you think it would be ok for him to try taking 2 of the 6. I'm sure this does ambien not work with food just and until he gets beyond this shock of losing my mom as they were together for 55 years and best friends. I could use some advise on this since his doctor put him on Klonopin and made him a zombie.
